UMR Connects: Refugees. Immigrants. and Ethnic Minorities: A Tale of Three Countries

  • University Square 4th Floor 111 South Broadway Rochester, MN, 55904 United States (map)

Germany and Turkey have taken in thousands of refugees from war-torn countries in the past couple of years. Their capacity to integrate this massive influx of peoples, the “European Migrant Crisis,” has been an economic strain and political football in both countries, complicated by the specter of terrorism and, in Turkey’s case, an increasing shift toward an autocratic form of governance. UM students share their study abroad experiences with immigrant and ethnic communities in Turkey and Germany. They also compare and contrast the response of the United States to the refugee crisis.
