Q&A with Brittany Wilcox of The Green Shack
Take a moment to meet Brittany Wilcox, a recent incubator participant and owner of The Green Shack!
Q: Can you share a bit about your business?
A: The Green Shack is a small hobby arts farm that hosts classes and parties to have new experiences and learn new things.
Q: What do you hope to get out of the incubator program?
A: To develop a short, concise way of explaining what I do and to learn how to better market and grow my business.
Q: What is your motivation and inspiration for pursuing your business idea?
A: I have always loved helping people be more creative and pursue working with their hands more. After going to horticulture school my view on our agricultural system have made me want to go more small farm and local for our food supply. Helping people reach these goals and getting back to the basics makes my heart happy.
Q: What is a fun fact about you? Can you share a bit about your background, hobbies and interests?
A: I have been a crafter and artist since a young age. I have MANY crafts I enjoy and always love helping everyone (especially children) learn to use their hands to create something they love. After high school I went to cosmetology school. I worked as a stylist for 10 years but I wasn't finding joy in it anymore. During this time I also worked as the office manager for a chiropractic office becoming proficient in billing insurance. For 9 years I worked there before starting horticulture school and starting on my next journey in 2018. In 2019 I had decided that I wanted to start a landscaping business but by the end of the year it was apparent that my health wasn't good enough to continue the strenuous work so we pivoted to more of an education platform with events and classes held on the property. We've reached out to local community ed programs to grow and get our name out to more of the communities in the area. I've really enjoyed working with many communities and being a part of many local Chambers.
