Business Experts Series: What You Will Not Learn by Googling “Branding”

Business Experts Series: What You Will Not Learn by Googling “Branding”

Strategic brand management can be a source of sustained competitive advantage if executed properly. Unfortunately, how to build a “strong” brand is often discussed yet often misunderstood. Building a “strong” brand requires more than choosing an attractive logo, a cool font, and a good color scheme – it requires an understanding of the role brands play in customers lives and the implications for marketers.

Key Takeaways:

  1. An understanding of the biggest problem facing your customers and why your customers struggle to solve this problem.

  2. An understanding of role brands play in helping your customers solve the biggest problem they have in their life.

  3. An understanding of the real definition of “brand loyalty”.

Who wins? Who loses? What will be the consequences? How can managers in the middle of trade wars cope with the uncertainties? This presentation will address these questions, with examples drawn from ongoing US trade wars with China, the EU, Mexico, Canada, Iran, and Russia.

Python programmers & the PyCurious

Hi fellow Pythonistas,

We'll be chatting about the things for which we use Python, maybe listening to presentations, and maybe doing some group kata exercises.

Have a think if there is a topic you can chat to the group about - demo a program, show some code, or ask the group for help with a problem. Unplanned talks are very welcome. The projector has VGA inputs, but I usually bring a VGA-HDMI converter.

We aim to be radically inclusive, welcoming the experienced or the py-curious, including non-programmers (eg. educators.) We are especially happy to welcome everyone from programming's many under-represented groups. We have zero tolerance for intolerance.

Join us as we welcome Kira Blackwell from NASA to close out GEW 2018.

Ms. Blackwell is a Program Executive at NASA HQ within the Space Technology Mission Directorate Office. Kira’s vision for an innovative program within NASA to strategically identify entrepreneurs developing cutting edge technologies that have both an Earth and agency application, is how NASA iTech was formed. NASA iTech provides a platform to evaluate the technologies and an opportunity for the startups to leverage private investment dollars for further development. In the first 18 months of the program, the startups were able to leverage $210 million dollars in private investments funds, creating a unique model at a nominal cost to the federal government and successfully working with both entrepreneurs and investors. Ms. Blackwell previously managed her own consulting business helping innovative startups succeed. Her previous positions include serving as the Executive Director of Operations at Chrysalis BioTherapeutics Inc., the Director of Strategic Relations for the Houston Technology Center (HTC) at NASA’s Johnson Space Center (JSC), facilitating local and international partnerships to leverage JSC’s innovative technologies, capabilities, and expertise. Prior to joining HTC, Ms. Blackwell served as the Director of Strategic Relations for Jacobs Technology, one of the largest engineering service contractors for NASA.
