Presenter: Dr. Joseph L. Mbele Using African proverbs and folktales as well as European folklore, such as the Finnish epic, Kalevala, this talk presents folklore as a vehicle for ethical and moral education. Joseph L. Mbele is a Tanzanian professor in the English Department, St. Olaf College. He previously taught at the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. He specializes in world literature in English and Folklore. He has published scholarly papers and books such as Matengo Folktales and Africans and Americans: Embracing Cultural Differences.
